Is Your Water Bill Higher? It’s Probably Because Our Rates Have Increased

On July 1, a scheduled increase in our water and sewer monthly user charges went into effect.  The change will show up in the bills customers receive in the middle of August.  The bill for the average water customer will go up $3 a month while the average sewer customer will see an increase of $6 on their monthly bill.

We strive to keep our rates the lowest in our region and have not raised them since July 2022.  However, this rate increase was necessary to pay our bills on operating expenses and construction project loans.  Just like the customers we serve have had to deal with rising costs the past few years, the PSA has experienced increasing costs for all the goods and services we use.

Finally, customers will see a separate charge of $3 on their August bills called the Virginia Waterworks Operation Fee.  This is an annual charge that all water utilities are required to pay to the Virginia Department of Health to support the Commonwealth’s oversight and regulation of public water systems.  We pass this fee along to all our customers every year about this time.
